Graphic Organizers and Rough Drafts

Last week we talked about using graphic organizers to help us during the pre-writing stage.  Previously, each reporter brainstormed a list of 15-30 topics/ideas that they were interested in or thought would be a good fit for the newspaper.  From that list, each reporter selected one idea that they wanted to develop into their first story for the newspaper.  Each reporter created their own web with their main topic in the center.  The reporters did an amazing job completing their webs!  They learned that the webs would help them when they needed to write their rough drafts.

Jaqui wanted to write a story about art class and she developed a web that would help her with her rough draft.
Today a group of reporters used their webs to help create their rough drafts.  The reporters were busy writing today and will continue to work on their stories after school or when time allows.

The reporters were busy writing their rough drafts today.  Each reporter had a unique story idea including:  interviewing a Blackhawk soccer star, interviewing the art teachers, school lunch and eating healthy, the outdoor science lab, and a spooky story for Halloween.

We know that our first issue of The Luther Scoop will be very informational.  We hope you are getting excited for the first issue!

Stacy is working on her story about lunchtime at Luther and eating healthy.
