4th Grade Verb Video

Mrs. Schuenke's 4th grade class has been learning about parts of speech during writing time.  After viewing a short video about nouns, students were inspired to create their own video about verbs.  Students brainstormed different verbs and then acted them out for the video.  Small groups also worked hard at performing their own rap to share the definition of a verb.  Sawyer was even inspired to write his own rap line for the production.  Mrs. Hartin, Mrs. Schuenke, and I had fun helping students learn about verbs while making this video.  The students did a great job and I think they will remember that a verb is an action word thanks to this experience.  Check out the video below!

College Campus and Cyber Bullying

Friday, October 19th the fifth grade reporters of the Luther Scoop were rewarded for their hard work by having the opportunity to attend a play at UW-Whitewater's Young Auditorium.  Thanks to the program Arts4All, we received free tickets to attend the show "Virtually Me".  Students enjoyed the play very much and learned about cyber bullying and the impact it has on the people involved.  All of the students said they loved everything about the play, but one of their favorite moments was getting to take a pledge with the actors to stop cyber bullying.  While at UW-Whitewater, we were able to take a quick look around campus.  The students were really impressed with the campus and all agreed that they wanted to go to college one day.

Alexis and Viola eagerly wait for the show to start.

Yusi and Alexia loved how close our seats were to the stage.

Everyone is ready for the show to begin.

Students posed by showing their best happy faces  :)

They then showed their sad faces :(

We had a great time at the theater!

After the play, we had fun exploring some of the popular places on the UW-Whitewater campus.

CLC Breakfast Club Visits Busy Barns

Thursday, October 18th, the CLC Breakfast Club along with the After-School CLC groups went on a field trip to Busy Barns.  Earlier this week students had fun learning about harvest time and about different animals that they would see on the farm.  Check out some of our photos from our trip.  Next week each student will be making their own video about their experience at Busy Barns.  We had such a fun time on our trip and students were asking when they could go back to Busy Barns.

Keven and Natanael were very excited for the trip.

Evelin and Anayeli ride around the track on the bikes.

Diana gets some help from her mom who also came on the trip with us.

Anayeli did a great job in the sack race.

The CLC students stopped to take a picture in front of the giant bee.

Here is a photo of all of our friends in the CLC Breakfast Club.

Keven had fun driving the tractor.

Evelin had fun pretending to ride the horse.

Anayeli tries her best to milk the cow.

Natanael zoomed down the big slide.

Keven used a spoon to feed the sheep.

The goat tickled Anayeli's hands when he ate the food.

Natanael loved the black kitten.

Miriam had fun playing in the corn.

Stacy helped Anayeli put her pumpkin in her bag.

Incorporating the iPad

Our school was fortunate enough to receive 50 iPads at the start of the school year.  My students and I have been incorporating the iPads into our LLI reading intervention lessons whenever we can.  During our phonics/word work lessons the students use their iPads to show what they know.  It is great being able to have the iPads because each student is able to participate while I am able to assess each student individually.  The students enjoy using the iPads and are extra motivated to do their reading lessons when they know they can use the iPads.  Besides using the iPads during reading time, we have found many other ways to use them throughout our day.

My first grade reading group uses the iPads to show that they can hear the sound at the beginning of a word.

Evelyn works hard to use the correct letter formation when writing her letters.

Brittany concentrates as she writes her answer using the DoodleBuddy app.

Miriam uses the iPad to practice reading and writing sight words.

Natanael uses the iPad to practice writing his letters correctly.

Melanie, a kindergarten student, was able to use the iPad to practice her colors.

Karina enjoyed practicing English color words using the Simon Says app.

Gibson concentrates intensely on following the color pattern on the iPad.

Ashley and Jasmine use the iPad to record Ms. Maniaci, our school's IMC director, during an interview for our school newspaper.

Teshana finished writing and editing her rough draft for the newspaper.  She is able to use a special iPad that has a keyboard connected to it to type her final draft for the paper.
