President's Day!

This morning the CLC Breakfast Club was busy learning about different presidents in honor of President's Day.  Our main focus was on Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama.  We learned facts about both presidents and compared and contrast their lives and accomplishments.

We made our own Abraham Lincoln posters and wrote interesting facts about him.

Anayeli works on giving Abraham Lincoln a beard.

Keven wanted to see what he would look like if he had a moustache.

Jasmin concentrates on finishing her project.

Javian and Hector write interesting facts about Abrahama Lincoln.  Some of their favorite facts were that Lincoln carried letters under his hat and he had a pet turkey.

We displayed our projects out in the hallway.

We also played a game on the Smartboard that helped us compare what life was like for President Lincoln compared to our lives now while President Obama is in office.

Hector moves "email" into the "Now" category.

Keven knows that Abraham Lincoln wore a top hat.

Using Animoto to Make Videos!

The Luther Scoop reporters have been busy working in the computer lab this week.  We have been trying out a new website: animoto.com  This website allowed our class to sign-up for free and create videos using different photos we've taken throughout the school year.  We decided to make movies showing the exciting things that happen when we work on The Luther Scoop.  Check out our videos below!  Be sure to let us know what you think!

Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!  Today we had many exciting things happening.

This morning the CLC Breakfast Club started off their day with some fun Valentine's activities.  The first thing we did was make special bookmarks using red paint and our thumbs.

Javian begins the project by painting his thumb red.

Students used their thumbs to make hearts on their bookmark.

Hector shows off his finished bookmark.

Later  students put their critical thinking skills to the test as they had to figure out the best way to get down the hallway without touching the floor.  They could only use two paper hearts to help them move along.  It was fun to see the students' different strategies.

Keven stepped on one heart at a time while Javian used the hearts to slide across the floor.

Nathan concentrates as he figures out how to make his next move without touching the floor.

Moises appears to fly through the air from one heart to the next while Jasmin moves quickly on the ground.

The Luther Scoop reporters have been busy selling newspapers yesterday and today.  This month we are having a contest where students can enter to win a Valentine's surprise.  So far we have sold over 80 newspapers and are hoping to sell some more tomorrow.

Jaqui and Diana help sell newspapers on Monday.

Teshana helps a second grader fill out a contest entry form.

Jaqui and Diana love selling The Luther Scoop!

Yusi and Stacy stylishly pose for a picture while taking a break from selling the newspapers.

Alexis, Stacy, and Yusi planned to wear red, pink, and white on Valentine's Day to help them sell newspapers to more people.

Another fun project students worked on this week was making one of a kind photo frames for their families.  Students were able to decorate a frame and take it home for a special Valentine's Day present for someone in their family.

Jaqui, Diana, and Stacy work together to find the right letters to spell out their messages for their frames.

Stacy, Alexis, and Yusi work on glueing their decorations.

Danielle, Viola, Teshana, and Moises use their creative skills to decorate their frames.

Here are the finished photo frames!

Teshana is proud to show off her unique photo frame!

Keven and Anayeli show off their photo frames too.

Post Office!

This morning during CLC Breakfast Club we turned our classroom into a post office.  We were getting our pen pal projects ready to mail.  We put our art squares and pen pal letters in the envelopes.  Then we made an assembly line and took turns putting on address labels and decorating the envelopes with fun stickers and stamps.

We think that our pen pals will get their letters sometime by the end of this week or early next week.  Everyone is excited to see which pen pal letter we will get first.
