Holiday Fun!

Today is the last day of school before winter break.  To get into the holiday spirit, students in the CLC Breakfast Club participated in different holiday-themed challenges throughout the week.  Students had to use problem solving skills and critical thinking skills to do their best at each task. The students had lots of fun doing each activity.  Check out the photos of some of the different activities we did this week.

Moises, Anayeli, and Jasmin participate in a holiday math scavenger hunt.  Each student had special holiday items to find.  On each item there were different math problems that the students had to solve before they could find their next hidden object.  Anayeli had to find all of the teddy bears, Jasmin looked for the reindeer, and Moises had to find the snowflakes.

Hector and Moises work hard on their math problems.  Hector was practicing addition and subtraction facts and Moises was working on long division.

Keven and Anayeli got to open our different holiday pen pal cards.

After we opened the holiday pen pal cards we found the different locations of where our pen pals lived and put a sticker on the map.

Hector, Jasmin, and Moises worked on putting an interactive December calendar back together.  They learned there are seven days in a week and 31 days in the month of December.  Mrs. Alizadeh made the calendar as a wonderful Christmas gift for Mrs. Johnson.

This activity had students using their problem solving skills to figure out who could get a Christmas card across the table and have it land at the end of the table, hanging over the edge, without it falling off.  Each student had one minute to try their best.  Hector gives this challenge his best try.

Javian sees if his strategy will work.  He looks like Superman flying through the air!

Jasmin decided to hop up on the table to help her blow the Christmas card across the table.

Moises watches as he blows the card too far, right off the table.  Good try!

Anayeli huffed and puffed just like the big bad wolf in the story "The Three Little Pigs".

In this activity, students had one minute to use a candy cane to see how many nuts they could stack on top of each other before it fell down.  Moises was able to build a stack of five.

Hector had a lot of patience and took his time.

Javian had great concentration!  Javian and Moises tied as winners of the game with five nuts stacked on top of each other.

Keven gives some advice to Nathan as he tries to scoop up a nut with the candy cane.

The students had fun pretending they were penguins.
