Incorporating the iPad

Our school was fortunate enough to receive 50 iPads at the start of the school year.  My students and I have been incorporating the iPads into our LLI reading intervention lessons whenever we can.  During our phonics/word work lessons the students use their iPads to show what they know.  It is great being able to have the iPads because each student is able to participate while I am able to assess each student individually.  The students enjoy using the iPads and are extra motivated to do their reading lessons when they know they can use the iPads.  Besides using the iPads during reading time, we have found many other ways to use them throughout our day.

My first grade reading group uses the iPads to show that they can hear the sound at the beginning of a word.

Evelyn works hard to use the correct letter formation when writing her letters.

Brittany concentrates as she writes her answer using the DoodleBuddy app.

Miriam uses the iPad to practice reading and writing sight words.

Natanael uses the iPad to practice writing his letters correctly.

Melanie, a kindergarten student, was able to use the iPad to practice her colors.

Karina enjoyed practicing English color words using the Simon Says app.

Gibson concentrates intensely on following the color pattern on the iPad.

Ashley and Jasmine use the iPad to record Ms. Maniaci, our school's IMC director, during an interview for our school newspaper.

Teshana finished writing and editing her rough draft for the newspaper.  She is able to use a special iPad that has a keyboard connected to it to type her final draft for the paper.
