Oobleck Assembly Video

Check out our animoto video showing different photos from the Oobleck Assembly:  A special thanks to Mrs. Congdon for taking all of the photos!  Click on the link below to view the video.

P.S.  My students and I love using animoto to make video projects :)

It's Slime Time!

Today was an exciting day at Luther.  At 2:00 we had our Oobleck Assembly.  This was a special assembly to recognize all of the students that worked hard keeping track of all of the minutes they read over the last month.  Mrs. Westby and Ms. Maniaci worked hard to make this program so special for the students at Luther.

Mrs. Johnson was very proud of her students as many of them completed the reading goal.  The assembly was extra special because Mrs. Johnson agreed to be slimed by students.  Three students from our class (Anayeli, Moises, and Diana) were selected to slime another teacher.  They did such a great job!  Hector was the top reader for all students in kindergarten-second grade and he was able to slime our principal, Mr. Geiger.  Way to go, Hector!

A special thanks to Mrs. Congdon for taking all of the great photos!

Moises is excited to get to slime Mr. Athas.  Anayeli and Ms. Maniaci both look nervous :)

Anayeli and Moises dump the slime.  Check out Ms. Loker's and Mrs. Witkin's reactions!

Olivia in Mrs. Witkin's kindergarten class got to slime Mrs. Johnson.

Diana loved sliming Ms. Zielicke!

Hector empties his bucket of slime on Mr. Geiger.

Yusi, Stacy, Mrs. Johnson, Alexis and Teshana give thumbs up for a great assembly!

Spring is Here!

We are happy that Spring has arrived!  We have been busy with lots of different activities that involve concepts of Spring.

To celebrate the end of March Madness basketball we played our own version of March "Math" Madness.  Students worked on addition and subtraction problems and were able to take a shot at the basket after getting a question correct.  Students also worked together as teams in a math relay race.  Besides practicing our math facts, students learned a lot about sportsmanship and being a good teammate.

Team "King of Kings" had a team huddle before the game began.

Jasmin gave team Cheetah a pep talk before the start of the game.

The team captains, Jasmin and Moises, started the game for their teams.

Hector and Moises concentrate so they can make their next shot.

At the end of the game all of the students high-fived each other to congratulate everyone for working hard.

Also this week we created a new Spring door decoration.  We talked about recycling and reusing materails for other purposes.  We used soda bottles and water bottles to paint flowers.  Also, because April is poetry month we wrote cinquain poems about flowers.

Jasmin reuses a soda bottle for a new purpose.  She is painting flowers.

Keven uses a paintbrush to paint the stems and leaves for his flowers.  Keven showed how we can reuse old newspapers to help keep the table clean when painting.

To celebrate Easter we had an Easter egg money hunt.  Students needed to find different eggs hidden around the classroom.  Before students could find another egg they needed to count how much money was inside the egg.  After students correctly counted the coins, they placed their eggs into the basket and went off to hunt for another one.  Students had a great time searching for the eggs and counting the money inside.

Anayeli and Jasmin quickly count the coins in their eggs.

Moises, Hector, and Nathan count their coins.

The students worked together to find the last egg.

What is the temperature?

The last week in March was busy for the CLC Breakfast Club.  We made frog thermometers and talked about different types of weather.  A special thank you to Rose for donating the frog kits to our students.  We had fun making the frogs, learning about thermometers, and talking about different kinds of weather.  We learned how to read the thermometers and record the temperatures into our science journals.  Students had fun making predictions about the different temperatures we would find around our school, inside and outside!  Students then recorded the different temperatures and wrote about their observations.

Keven and Hector glue their thermometer charts into their science journals.

Anayeli and Jasmin record the temperature of the art room into their science journals.

Javian shares his observations.

While we were recording various temperatures Mr. Hartwick came by with his hamster named Paula Abdul.  Moises was brave and had the hamster on his shoulder.

Anayeli liked having Paula Abdul on her shoulder.
