Learning About the Parts of a Newspaper

We participate in the Newspaper In Education (NIE) program through our local newspaper, Daily Jefferson County Union.  This program is great!  We receive one newspaper each day and we are able to learn about things happening in our community.  We also use the newspaper to brainstorm ideas for what we should include in The Luther Scoop.  A group of fourth grade reporters thought of lots of great ideas for what we should include in our newspaper.

The 4th grade reporters brainstorm ideas for The Luther Scoop.

Some of our ideas were to include interviews, photographs, weather reports, comics, and even advertisements.  We also brainstormed different ideas for stories.  Some of our story ideas included writing about daily activities at Luther, field trips, special assemblies, mileage club and fitness club, new teachers, new students, and all kinds of other interesting things happening at Luther each month.

 We love the Daily Union!

We are all excited to start writing our first stories for The Luther Scoop!

Stay in the Loop, Read The Luther Scoop!

Welcome to The Luther Scoop Blog!

Here you will be able to read about the latest happenings at Luther Elementary.  This year my students will use this blog to post stories, photos, and videos about interesting events and people at Luther.

Last year we started The Luther Scoop newspaper and sold new issues each month.  We sold each newspaper for 10 cents and sold over 1,100 copies.

The Luther Scoop staff presented a check for $116.00 to the Boys and Girls Club in May.

We are excited to be using technology this year to help share the news. We hope you check back often to read about all of the delightful moments at Luther.

Stay in the loop, read The Luther Scoop!
